BikeNZ Schools Rules & Gearing Restrictions for Junior Riders

 PLEASE NOTE AS PER THE 2008 BIKENZ SCHOOLS AGM: NO That wheels must have a minimum of 16 spokes and contain no composite materials.

Summary of Age Groups, Gearing Restrictions and Equipment Restrictions 

Riders and Managers should be aware that BikeNZ Schools rules differ from the current Cycling NZ and UCI rules regarding Age Groups, Gearing and Equipment. In addition, it is not necessary to hold a BikeNZ Licence to compete in BikeNZ Schools sanctioned events, however membership to BikeNZ is endorsed and encouraged by BikeNZ Schools.

 

 

 

JUNIOR UNDER 20 (also applies to Under 19 & 18)

A Under 20 rider must be under the age of 20 years on 31st December in the year of competition. 

A maximum gearing of 7.93 meters roll-out is permitted except for Team Time Trial events where a maximum permitted roll-out is 6.61 metres

Wheels must have a minimum of 16 spokes. carbon or composite rims and disc wheels are prohibited. Use of aero bars or clip-on tri bars is also prohibited.

JUNIOR UNDER 17 (also applies to Under 16 ,15 and Under 14)

A Under 17 rider must be under the age of 17 years on 31st December in the year of competition.

A maximum gearing of 6.61 metres roll-out is permitted for Road Races and Team Time Trials.
Wheels must have a minimum of 16 spokes. carbon or composite rims and disc wheels are prohibited. Use of aero bars or clip-on tri bars is also prohibited.

 Year 7 and Year 8

A maximum gearing of 6.00 metres roll-out is permitted for both Road Races and Team Time Trials.

Wheels must have a minimum of 16 spokes. Carbon or composite rims and disc wheels are prohibited. Use of aero bars or clip-on tri bars is also prohibited.
